Okay, so you've noticed that KaZaA and
Grokster have gotten extremely annoying with the onslaught of ever-more
in-your-face ads and pop-ups?! You can now do something about
it!
Keep in mind, this is a dated
project. If you attempt to do this a year after this article is
published, the links and technology, itself, may have changed. The
following applies to existing versions as of this date.
Follow the instructions below to a
"T" and you'll soon be downloading to your hearts contents,
minus the parasites that have taken these program over.
Before you begin, it's important to
understand that you must de-select all the side-companion programs
that attempt to install (by default) for these programs (KaZaA and
Grokster). If you elect to install any of these programs, the
spyware will remain on your system! Also, if you make any
changes or updates to KaZaA, Grokster or any other known spyware it
will most likely undo your work below... you may have to rinse and
repeat. :)
So, let's begin:
- Download AdAware by clicking here.
- Download Kazaa Cydoor Remover by
clicking here
- If you don't already have the newest
version of Kazaa, download it here,
or if you prefer, choose Grokster (about the same), by clicking here.
- Now, if you don't have Kazaa up to the
newest version, go ahead and install that next
- Right-click on the
kazaacydoor.exe (from step #2) and select, "Winzip" |
"Open with WinZip", then extract to a temp directory
somewhere (preferably c:\temp).
- Run the inF1B4.exe. It will appear to do
nothing, it has.. just trust it.
- Double click on the inF1B3.cab (opens
WinZip) and extract cd_clint.dll to the same temp directory.. you will
use this later.
- Install Ad-Aware, and run it. Scan your
computer using Surface Scan, Deep Scan and all your drives.
- When the program has stopped scanning,
it'll list all spyware located on your system. REMOVE IT ALL
- If you attempt to run
KaZaA now, it'll say you have uninstalled a component and then it'll
quit. Don't do that. :)
- Copy the CD_CLINT.DLL file to your
WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (or for Windows NT/Windows 2000/XP, put it in
WINNT\SYSTEM32).
That's it! KaZaA will run and it'll not
have Cydoor active anymore.
