| All of the patches for Doom 1 are in the form of self-extracting archives. Simply copy them into your Doom directory (folder) and run them. They will automatically extract the patch file(s), batch file(s), and README.TXT file. Please refer to these individual README.TXT file before upgrading any version of Doom. The patches for Doom ][ are in the form of ZIP's. You will need to use an extract utility such as PKUNZIP.EXE v2.04g or Winzip. Follow the same directory, thereafter, as with Doom 1 patches. Always remember to back-up your existing Doom/Doom ][ files (especially doom.exe, doom2.exe, doom.wad, doom1.wad, and/or doom2.wad). If the upgrade fails for any reason, it can easily corrupt your previous version. Also make sure to note exactly what version of Doom/Doom ][ that you are using. The easiest way to do this, is to pay attention to the header line that appears when you load Doom/Doom ][. You do not want to attempt to upgrade, let's say, version Doom ][ 1.7 with the 1.7a to 1.9 patch. It simply won't work and/or will corrupt your current version. |
